This is such a great book. I'm 63 and the minute I opened it, it took me back to grade school. I didn't want to put it down. Remember when Reading was a subject and you could spend 45 minutes lost in a book? It all came back to me. This book is for my grandkids, but I'll probably read the whole thing before I give it to them! Charming stories that are just as entertaining and funny to this generation as they were to mine.

Affordable durable edition of these classic children's stories.
The story I remembered was about the donut machine and a lost diamond ring. It has to be more than sixty years since I read it, but I remembered it. I bought the book for my grandkids. They tell me they really liked the story. The test will be whether or not they buy it for their grandkids, sixty years from now.
I grew up with this book, taught this book and continue to cherish this book. The adventures are pure fun although somewhat unbelievable. This story helps children enjoy reading for the characters are so real. Robert McCloskey is a beloved author who has brought so much great literature our way....don't miss it.
These are well written and illustrated (by the author)stories that take one back to a simpler time with quite fanciful and intriguing tales about a young boy. I read it as a kid, read it to my kids and just gave it to a friends's son. Will always remember the stories of the pet skunk, the huge ball of string and, most famously, the donut machine.
I LOVE Homer Price! The stories are so cute and wholesome. They take you back to what it was like in the 50s and that is really fun for my kids to hear. We use these stories as read-alouds and even my 13 year old loves to listen to them. The pen/ink drawings are very good and keep the book interesting. Homer Price is a win for quality family time.
Well, modern as of the mid-twentieth century. McCloskey's children's stories about Homer and the rural town he lives in, make fun of radio quiz shows, movie super-heroes, labor-saving devices, pre-fabricated housing tracts, etc. The tales - and McCloskey's humorous illustrations - have always delighted me. This is another book I send to children in my family for birthday or Christmas gifts.

I got this for my 11-year-old brother. When he opened it he looked skeptical. After reading it cover to cover he is as big a fan as I am.
