The Daring Exploits of a Runaway Heiress Millworth Manor Victoria Alexander 9781420132281 Books

I did enjoy this book, not as much as the first three, but much more than the last book.

I found this book to be a nice, easy read. Nothing emotionally draining, nothing too stupid or unbelievable happens and I never for one second doubted that Lucy and Cameron belonged together.

Lucy inherited a fortune from her late aunt Lucinda (for whom she is named after) as well as a journal from her. This journal is a list of regrets that Aunt Lucinda had in her life. She doesn't insist that Lucy set her regrets to rights - but she does imply that hopes Lucy will consider it.

Cameron is one of the Effington brood - Jonathan and Fiona's youngest son to be exact. He is trying to figure out what he want to do with his life and has decided that he wants to be a writer. His father is less than pleased with this decision and offers Cam a wager - he will give Cam two months to write a book and if he is successful, his father will 100% support his writing career but if he fails he quits writing for the scandalous paper he is currently working for and pursues a career that his father approves of. Cam takes the wager and turns to his friend Phineas for inspiration.

Through Phineas he learns of Lucy and her quest. He believes he has found his inspiration and sets off to meet Lucy.

Lucy meanwhile has decided that she is going to try and set Aunt Lucinda's regrets to right and has hired Clare (Phineas' partner) to act as her companion and regret-righter helper.

This is the beginning of a mostly light hearted tale of a young woman finding herself and the love of a lifetime. The path to her HEA is not smooth and it is not without pain. But, it is fun to read and EVERYONE with the exception of Lucy is hiding something. The adventures she has are pretty tame and really show the reader what truly nice woman Lucy is. She is very agreeable after all.

The ending of this book was for me - MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than the last book. I hope this is not the end of the series. I want to see what happens with Clare and Phineas, not to mention Beryl and Lionel. And now I want to read about Lucy's brothers and Cam's siblings!

If you are looking for a not too steamy, not too complicated fun book to read - this is that book.

The Daring Exploits of a Runaway Heiress Millworth Manor Victoria Alexander 9781420132281 Books Reviews

First let me state that I'm a fan of Victoria Alexander - her books are entertaining and move quickly.

That being said, "The Daring Exploits of A Runaway Heiress" picks up where "The Shocking Secret of a Guest at the Wedding" left off. Lucinda Merryweather, an American Heiress had broken her engagement to Jackson Channing. Her inheritance from her Great Aunt Lucinda include her fortune and her great aunt's book of regrets. Lucy decides that she will right the regrets and complete her great aunt's wishes - including riding an elephant, find unconditional love (a dog will do), and several others. Of course her ex-almost fiancé thinks that she is mad! He convinces Beryl (a close family friend) to keep an eye out to keep Lucy out of trouble. Beryl , in turn decides to have a private investigator keep an eye on Lucy.

Enter the Hero - Cameron Effington. After hearing about some of Lucy's exploits from his friend - a private investigator, Cam decides to "check her out". Lucy mistakenly assumes that Cam is the investigator that Jackson hired. Cameron is actually a writer, and finds Lucy delightful - he decides (with modifications to protect the guilty) to use Lucy's adventures as a basis for a very popular series of stories published in a newspaper. He wants to prove that he can write a good story - a claim that his father denies.

Assumptions abound in this tale - and love flourishes. And tragedy. A continuation of characters from Millworth Manor. A heck of a lot of fun to read.

There are just some authors whose names you see and you think, I just have to read her book. Right now Victoria Alexander is one of those. I have read some of her past books and one of the things I am enjoying is how she left the Regency Period and moved to the Victorian. I think partially because her families grew. There were new generations, new stories to tell. Of course that's just my opinion. But I will say, the dresses on the covers fit the Victorian Era much better than they do the Regency one.

The Daring Exploits of a Runaway Heiress is the latest in her Millworth Manor Series. Lucy Merryweather is the former betrothed of Jackson Quincy Graham Channing (The Shocking Secret of A Guest at the Wedding) and it takes place at the end of said Guest.. before the resolution.

Lucy Merryweather was betrothed her entire life to her best friend but both of them really knew they shouldn't be married. So when Jackson fell in love with someone else, Lucy was actually thrilled. Now she has some serious money, she inherited from an aunt and a bucket list, not her own, her aunt's. But Lucy feels that if she actually does the activities prescribed she will not only be living a full life but paying back her aunt. Only thing is, she probably needs some security and the man who claims to be a bodyguard of sorts, well he can seriously help with several of the more interesting items..

Cameron Effington the younger son of a Duke, Cameron has it pretty easy but his father wants more for him than just being a reporter. He wants him to fulfill his own dreams and write that book or to find more respectable employment, like working for the family. Cameron takes on a challenge to write that book but lacks inspiration. Until he hears about Lucy's quest.. he thinks she might just be the perfect muse. Only he doesn't exactly tell her what's going on. And the more he's around her the more he wants her and the more he wants her, the harder it is to tell the truth.

How fun! A girl with a dream that doesn't include a man. She just wants to live a little and falling in love was never on the list.

I think Lucy will touch the girl that was in a lot of readers. We can not help but see ourselves in either the aunt or Lucy or both. Dreams of adventure. Like I said a fun book.
